This app has become a pioneer in terms of online betting in recent years and the markets that are available in terms of sports betting are truly brilliant. The site to be fair has been put together in good style with betting markets available on a whole host of sports, something now expected by any British punter betting online, and here we’ll go into what makes them good and what they could improve on terms of their horse racing offering, promos, banking and more.

The minimum is £10, which is fine, and while 100% bonuses generally read fairly favourably we’d always like to see younger firms offer higher maximums, such as £100-£200 for example, to be able to compete with the big boys.

What we do like about this opening bonus is that it is incredibly easy to get; simply register with SportNation, make your first deposit of £10 – £50 and receive the same amount back. Crucially though you will have to remember to enter a code, SN50NEW at the time of writing, otherwise your bonus will not be forthcoming.

The bonus comes with a 7x turnover requirement meaning that should you claim the full £50, you will need to bet a total of £350 before being able to make a withdrawal.

SportNation Ongoing Promotions

Even as a relatively new company, SportNation have clearly understood the need for numerous ongoing promotions when it comes to keeping players happy. At any one time there are 9+ promos listed on the site covering horse racing, sports, virtual and casino games.

Best odds guaranteed is offered on selected horse races, something that we love to see but also treat as somewhat of a minimum expectation, while other promos rather cleverly but slightly annoyingly aim to get players participating across different interests.

For example, one bonus advertises a free £5 accumulator, but this can only be gained once you’ve bet a total of £50 on blackjack which is something not all sports betting fans will be interested in at all. Likewise, you can receive 10 free casino spins but only when you bet £10 on Starburst on Wednesdays, a very obvious way to get players putting money in on the site’s quietest day.

Other casino promos are offered too, but as a firm conceived by a former football player and calling itself SportNation, we’d like to see more ongoing offers aimed at sports fans and especially horse racing punters.

SportNation Horse Betting Features

This is the real acid test for us, as no matter how slick an online bookmaker may look and how good their features are, if they don’t offer fair odds and good bonuses on horse racing markets then we may as well not bother.

In this case when you get to the horse racing main page you will see the next three domestic races due off and the first three horses in the market in said events, meaning if you’re the type to place an upcoming bet in haste regardless of the quality of the race then you’re taken care of in one click.

Underneath you’ll see ‘today’, ‘tomorrow’ and ‘future’, the latter being the more international phrase for ante-post bets. In each of these sections you will only find UK and Irish action which is a little disappointing given that, due to increased TV coverage, many backers are hot on French, American, Australian and Hong Kong action just to name a few territories.

Within each race there are provisions to bet on the usual win and each-way markets as well as place forecasts and tricasts with potential selections listed in a rather simplistic racecard format. We would love to see more detail given here, especially with some data plumbed in from the likes of the Racing Post or Timeform.

Overall the horse racing page is a no frills affair, but the basics at least are OK as the site itself is very slick, quick and easy to use while crucially domestic horse racing odds seem fair versus most competitors, including some of the bigger names.

There is no live streaming available which is a shame, but it is not a deal-breaker as many newer firms are in the same boat as SportNation on this score and we don’t want to make unfair comparisons to the likes of bet365 or Ladbrokes, and we won’t forget that ‘best odds guaranteed’ is available either but only on selected races.

A browse through the ‘other sports’ section of the website will lead you to many a market offering perfectly fair odds, though not too much in the way of specials. With so much sport available on TV and online now, the basic thing new operators have to achieve in the UK is to offer odds on as many different sports as possible and SportNation have done well in this sphere, the list being:

Both an app and a mobile site for SportNation.bet exist, behaving similarly but both also getting the same slightly negative feedback from regular players.

In an increasingly busy and on-the-move type world, bookmakers providing good mobile platforms becomes ever more prevalent and so with dozens of apps to choose from a new service can easily get lost in the crowd.

The SportNation mobile site is rather simple which, in terms of usability at least, is a good thing. It’s hard to judge whether or not a full range could be offered on such a platform by this bookmaker, given that even on their main page the number of markets offered on horse racing is fairly limited anyway.

If you’re happy with the sort of simple, uncomplimented service SportNation offer then the mobile app will not deter you from betting with them as all the major sports and basic bet types are covered.

The app delivers exactly the same service as the mobile site meaning that it really it comes down to whether you want to access your account with one click, or whether you prefer to save space and not bother with a download.

If you do choose the app, this is available for all major smartphones and tablets whether iOS or Android with the same slick design, but judgement really has to be deferred until more markets and services are offered overall by SportNation such as live streaming and better ongoing promotions.

Banking Options

Almost all of the major worldwide betting firms trading in the UK provide no shortage of banking options and this has been a key part of their collective success. It is however also an area that lets down some of the smaller entities and in the case of SportNation there is some catching up to.

We appreciate there are costs involved of course, but the British online gambling market is a diverse one and people bet using an array of different methods, meaning if yours is not listed it can quite conceivably stop you having a bet at all.

We were really disappointed to learn that only Visa, MasterCard, Maestro and Electron were accepted here, essentially then only major credit and debit cards with no provision to accept e-wallets or cryptocurrencies.

While it’s true most of us use these payment methods, a growing number of players use Skrill or PayPal for example to process payments and accept payouts, something SportNation are not offering and this is something we feel they will need to change as soon as possible along with being more open about minimum/maximum amounts and process times.

This, in theory at least, is such an easy thing to get right so no quarter is given by reviewers, including us, regardless if how new a company may be and thankfully SportNation do not let us down in this area.

As you may know from previous reviews, we always recommend using a Live Chat feature if there is one as you get the best of both worlds; instant customer service and answers given in writing.

SportNation indeed do have a live chat service built into their site, within the ‘contact us’ page. There is a downside here and that is that the feature is only available from midday-10PM each day which is a very short time range. Responses are quick though and we’ve found that you will invariably be handled by a welcoming and knowledgeable member of staff.

If you do need to get in touch outside of these hours you can email the team at help@sportnation.bet, where the average response time is listed as 48 hours but is often sooner, or you can take a look at their FAQ page which is reasonably detailed.

Another slight negative is that there is no phone number listed on the site, but honestly with the live chat function available and having dealt with the staff, we cannot be too harsh their customer service skills which have impressed us to this point.

True, we’d like to see more markets and bonuses added to the horse racing offering with SportNation and they really need to add more payment and withdrawal methods as a matter of urgency, but as far as young online bookmakers do this firm is doing OK.

The sites and apps are slick, easy to use and give at least all the relevant information, while the new customer bonus is not too shabby and basic odds are fair versus their main competitors.
